2019 in Review: The Best Restaurants with Private Dining Rooms in New York City

A new year is upon us, so we surveyed over 300 corporate event planners in New York City and asked for their most booked Private Dining Rooms for corporate events in 2019.

Highest levels of service as well as the most private spaces are the most consistent themes for why these PDRs are recommended. It’s no surprise to see that three Union Square Hospitality Group restaurants (by Danny Meyer) made the list.  You may also see a few surprises (we sure were).

Gramercy Tavern

Planners love Gramercy Tavern because the service is the best in NYC and they know their guests will be treated like old friends.  They specifically book this private dining room often because it is completely private. Note that there are no windows in the room.

STK Downtown

Dirty French

Planners love Dirty French because the restaurant is not as stuffy as some of the options on this list; however, it’s still part of the Major Food Group so you know what you are getting.  The private dining room is on the 2nd floor and has a private bathroom, bar and sound system so privacy is guaranteed.

Where: 180 Ludlow St (Lower East Side)

Manhatta

Every planner who put down Manhatta has mentioned the “out of this world” views.  The restaurant is only a year old, but it looks like it’s already become a staple.  You also don’t have to walk through the restaurant to get to the PDR (if that is a concern).

Where: 28 Liberty St, Fl 60 (Financial District)
Cuisine: New American
Number of Spaces: 2
Venue Buyout: 100 Seated, 150 Standing
Private Dining Room: 40 Seated, 50 Standing

Meatball Shop – Hell’s Kitchen

Planners love Sidepeice at the Meatball Shop because the space has its own bar and the perfect layout for a private cocktail party.  The minimums are also “very low” so it’s a great space for any after work event.

Where: 798 9th Ave (Hell’s Kitchen)
Cuisine: Meatballs
Number of Spaces: 2
Venue Buyout: 70 Seated, 90 Standing
Private Dining Room: 30 Seated, 50 Standing

The Modern

Interestingly, planners said they book the Modern often because they usually combine it with a private tour of the MoMa beforehand.  The cutting edge food and convenience in location were also mentioned often.

Cuisine: New American
Number of Spaces: 4
Venue Buyout: 120 Seated, 250 Standing

Locanda Verde

Planners love the private dining room at Locanda Verde because of the size.  The room can fit both a cocktail reception and a seated dinner easily so you can get a private space for a large group and “not pay buyout pricing.”

Cuisine: Italian
Number of Spaces: 2
Venue Buyout: 125 Seated, 250 Standing
Private Dining Room: 60 Seated, 100 Standing
